My humble little abode

Below are the photos of my house when I first bought it (the pics used in the advertising campaign by the real estate agent). I didn't fall in love with it at first sight, but what struck me was that it was a tidy, well kept house. In estate agent speak, it had "plenty of potential".

The first thing I thought of when I signed the contract was to change the colour scheme of the house. It seemed that the owner loved the sea: all the walls were light blue with dark blue trims, the windows had dark blue trims, dark blue doors, the carpet was light blue, the kitchen was lime with grey vinyl, the bathroom had dolphin-trimmed tiles, and there were even dolphin decoupage on the light fittings! The real estate agent told me that under the carpet and vinyl were original floorboards, still in good condition. I thought, why would anyone want to cover up beautiful wooden floorboards?

When I went home that day I trawled through the internet and many interior design blogs and looked for inspiration. I had been to a display home a few months before and saw a beautiful house in a silver and white colour scheme with teal accents. It looked so luxe, modern and decadent, so I thought it might be good to go with that scheme. So with this in mind, I searched for inspiration in the way of teal feature walls. I didn’t have much trouble finding inspiration, as it seems teal is quite fashionable. I figured it’d be great to have a beautiful teal feature wall in the bedroom. For the lounge room, I had been inspired by my sister’s house: they had painted their house silver/grey with white trims. It looked so homely and classic, and I wanted to capture this coziness in my house too.
Below are some pics that inspired me:

So with this inspiration in mind, I set out to create my own little suburban haven.
